David Charles Stracener

February 8, 1941 ~ September 17, 2023 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Obituary

David Charles Stracener, 82, of Coy, went to his heavenly home Sunday, September 17th, 2023. Most knew him as Big David, but his favorite people called him Pop. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication and love of his family, especially his babies.

He was born to Charlie and Bessie Stracener in England, Arkansas on February 8th, 1941. He attended Plum Bayou school, then went on to build his life, with his wife and children, as an entrepreneur. He owned successful operations in the trucking and farming industries before retiring, to enter what he described as the best part of his life.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Charlie and Bessie Stracener, and a sister, Bernice Slayden. Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Faye, of 61 years; a son, David Lynn (Benita) Stracener of Coy, Arkansas; one daughter, Carla (Jerry) Scroggins of Rison, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Hunter (Andrea) Stracener, Logan (Nathan) Sisson, Drake (Haley) Stracener and Ty Scroggins; and the loves of his life, his great grandchildren: Lucas Stracener, Charley Sisson and Layton Stracener; a sister, Margret Slayden; a brother-in-law, Jerry “Red” Morris; one special niece, Brandy Sober; a great niece, Bevan Sober; and a host of family and friends.

Big David fought his best fights against cancer twice in his life. After becoming cancer-free in the early 1990s, he was diagnosed in later life with a chronic form of Leukemia. His family was blessed to have him an additional 4 years after the discovery, thanks to the team at CARTI that respected his wishes and assisted him to live the fullest life possible. A special thanks to Dr. Nair and his staff (with CARTI) on behalf of the family. Thank you to Arkansas Hospice, especially his nurse Paula, who helped his family care for him in the comfort of his own home during his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his remembrance to CARTI or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 19, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Wilson Robison Funeral Home in England.  Services will be held Wednesday, September 20, at 2:00PM at Wilson Robison Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mulberry Cemetery in England. Online condolences can be sent to www.wilsonrobisonfhengland.com
