Johnny Steven Marks, 71, of Plumerville, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022. He was born August 26, 1951, in Morrilton, to his parents, Odis and Audrey (Townsley) Marks of Plumerville. Johnny was the youngest of three children. He was preceded in death by both parents and his older brother, Jim Paul.
He is survived by his sister, Marie Hilburn of Plumerville; his daughter, Sydney (Beau) Jones of NLR; and his 3 grandchildren, Molly, Emmett, and Sybil, who he endearingly called LuLu. Johnny doted on the grandchildren, and they loved him dearly. They loved to cuddle in his friendly, comfortable lap! They talked about and looked forward to their ‘Papa’ teaching them to fish, hunt, and other things. They loved to chase and play with Johnny’s chickens. Johnny lived most of his life at the ‘family place’ in Plumerville, with Jim Paul and Marie nearby. Like his father (Odis), he loved the outdoors and the simple life. He had a wry sense of humor.
Johnny is also survived by his very good friend Gilbert Fordham; Sydney’s sister, Camille Wood; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He graduated from Plumerville High School in 1969. After high school, he spent time in the United States Navy. He attended UCA, earning degree in General Science. He attended the UAMS School of Pharmacy.
Johnny spent over 40 years as a builder, carpenter, craftsman, and overall ‘handy man,’ He was a state licensed contractor, and long-time business owner of ‘Johnny Marks Builder,’ having ongoing projects when he died. One of his more interesting hobbies was presenting huge fireworks displays.
Johnny will be dearly missed. He holds a special place in our hearts!
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Portland Missionary Baptist Church, 304 W. Nesbit Avenue, in Plumerville. Online condolences can be sent to www,wilsonrobisonfhengland.com
