Oliver “Buck” Cole Custer Jr., 85, passed away on January 19, 2026, at his home in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
Born in Reno, Nevada, to Oliver and Mary Custer, Buck was an outdoorsman at heart. As a young man, he loved fishing and hunting alongside his father and brother. He found peace near the water and spent much of his adult life living and working near the ocean.
Buck was also a musician, an author, and a lifelong scholar. He wrote and published six books and was continually reading, studying, and seeking deeper understanding. His mind was curious and thoughtful, and he believed that learning was a pursuit that never truly ended.
A man of faith, Buck loved the Lord and made it his mission throughout his life to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. Whether through conversation, writing, or personal witness, he spoke openly about his beliefs and the hope he found in them. His faith was central to who he was.
Buck took great pride in being a father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Jenny (Custer) Lay, and his granddaughter, Audrey Grace Lay. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel Custer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Mary Custer, and his brother, John Anthony Custer.
Those who knew Buck will remember his strong mind, his determined spirit, and his desire to leave others with something meaningful to consider. He lived his life with conviction.
His life was marked by thought, faith, and perseverance. He will be missed and remembered for the legacy of belief, learning, and love he leaves behind.
